Summary:
Happy Place by Emily Henry is a second chance romance about friendship and self-discovery. The story follows Harriet and Wyn, a couple who actually broke up months ago but decide to fake their relationship for one last vacation with their close-knit group of friends. Every year, Harriet, Wyn, Sabrina, Parth, Cleo, and Kimmy (their friends) reunite at a beach house in Maine, which is a tradition they’ve cherished for years. Except this summer feels different, and keeping up the act becomes more complicated as memories resurface.
Harriet arrives at the cottage expecting a carefree getaway, only to find Wyn there too. No one else knows they’ve split, and they have a whole week ahead of them. So they agree to keep their breakup a secret. We see Harriet navigate nostalgia, heartbreak, and the weight of expectations as an aspiring brain surgeon. She’s forced to confront what went wrong between her and Wyn. Obviously this is all balanced with Emily Henry’s signature blend of humor, deep emotions, and sharp dialogue.
My Thoughts:
You cannot go wrong with any Emily Henry book. Happy Place was the first book I read of hers and I was immediately captivated by her writing style. Her descriptive writing and use of figurative language is just *chef’s kiss*. It’s easy to read and offers a beautiful take on the right person wrong time trope. I also loved the found family aspect and how they had to work through their relationships in this new chapter of their lives
There is an emotional depth to all of Emily Henry’s books which I appreciate because it’s done so well. It’s balanced out with the right amount of humor and fluffy romance vibes. Would I recommend this book? Absolutely Yes! Not only is it just a phenomenal book but it’s also such a staple in the book reading community along with all of Emily’s other books, for good reason. So if you’re in a reading slump or want to get into reading, any Emily Henry book is the way to go!
